Eliminating Mandatory Minimums Campaign Launch

June 4, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join DC Justice Lab in conversation with survivors, directly impacted persons, and legal experts to push for the elimination of mandatory minimums in D.C. The event features a screening of FAMM’s compelling documentary, The Vanishing Trial, and highlights the ways in which mandatory minimums affect the outcomes of criminal cases. Mandatory minimums decrease community safety, restrict judicial discretion, silence survivors, and compel the accused to plead guilty. Attendees are encouraged to contact their council members to push for the introduction of legislation to eliminate mandatory minimums from the D.C. code. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q+A  with

  • Moderator: Olinda Moyd, Distinguished Practitioner in Residence, AU Washington College of Law
  • Panelist: Alexandra Bailey, Senior Campaign Strategist, The Sentencing Project
  • Panelist: Bryant Woodland, Reentry Coordinator, Second Look Project
  • Panelist: Mona Sahaf, Director of Reshaping Prosecution, Vera Institute of Justice

The event will be held in AU Washington College of Law’s Ceremonial Classroom. Doors open at 5:30PM, and the film screening will begin at 6:00PM.
