Colin Murphy

Board Member

Colin Murphy serves as Chief Performance Officer for the Maryland Department of Human Services. He works to ensure government organizations are effective, accountable, and equitable in serving the public. Colin previously was a Senior Advisor at the DC Child and Family Services Agency, where he led projects across strategy development, annual planning, customer experience/process improvement, and technology modernization. Prior to joining the DC government, he worked at Boston Consulting Group, the Florida Department of Children and Families, and The Bridgespan Group. He holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor’s in Classics from Brown University.

 

What is one thing you would like to change about the D.C.’s criminal legal system this year? 

Increase the voices and power of those affected by the system in making decisions about how the system works.

A dedicated public policy lawyer, Chanell spent five years at the Council of the District of Columbia, serving in various roles, including as Committee Director for the Committee on Business & Economic Development. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University and George Washington University Law School, Chanell began her professional career as an Assistant Public Defender in Baltimore and is an active member of the Maryland Bar Association.

 

Chanell has been named to the National Black Lawyers Top 40 under 40 and the National Bar Association’s Top 40 Under 40. She is a native of Washington, D.C. and a proud member of Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

 

What is one thing you would like to change about the D.C.’s criminal legal system this year?

I would reform the city’s expungement process.
