Ashlei Anderson (she/her) is a DC Justice Fellow. She earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a Public Interest Fellow, Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown Journal of Law and Modern Critical Race Perspectives, and a student attorney in Georgetown Law’s Civil Rights Clinic. Ashlei went to law school with the goal to be a strong advocate for racial justice and to advocate for alternatives to public safety outside of policing and incarceration. During law school, Ashlei worked with various organizations to address racial justice and discriminatory policing including the Advancement Project and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
Prior to law school, Ashlei worked as a Civil Liberties Fellow at the ACLU of Michigan and a fellow at We The People Michigan. She graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan, majoring in political science and Afroamerican & African Studies.
Ashlei wanted to join DCJL because she resonated with the values and vision of the organization, specifically living in a place that eradicates the root causes of crime and violence and ends overreliance on police, prosecutors, and prisons. Currently, she leads two policy campaigns: eliminating mandatory minimums and ending the use of jump-outs by the Metropolitan Police Department.
